In this episode Charlie demonstrates some of the popular coincident micing techniques to capture a full, focused room sound.
XY and ORTF are demonstrated with both MXL V67n small condensers and Audio Technica 4050 large condensers. The 4050s are also used in Mid/side and Blumlein configurations. As an added bonus, we combined the 4050 and a Cascade Fathead II in an M/S pair and the MXL V67ns in Charlie's favorite: the ORTF format with omni capsules!
All of the room mic pairs are going through the Chandler Limited TG2. The RE20 inside the kick is running through a Chandler Limited Germanium. The Heil PR30s on the toms and the MXL V67i overheads are running through Golden Age Project Pre73s. The Shure SM57 on the snare is running through the Chameleon Labs 7602 MKII and the SM57 on the bottom snare and MXL V67n on the hats are running through the MXL MPAC-01 pre.
Our Drumset for this episode is a Pearl Session Custom outfitted with Evans Drumheads. Featuring “Evans G2″ href=”http://evansdrumheads.com/EvProductDetail.Page?ActiveID=3567&productid=541&productname=G2_Coated” target=”_blank”>G2s on the toms, G1 on the snare and an EMAD Clear on the kick.
